What the record says
- ✓Listed. Grade II, listed 19 December 1984 (list entry 1315499). It is listed partly for its group value in the square.[6]
- c.The building. "Probable C17 origin", much altered in the 18th century and later. Inside are a chamfered ceiling beam and a chamfered fireplace beam; the gables on the south side have Victorian bargeboards.[6]
- ≠How old?. CAMRA's listing calls it a 13th-century building, which Historic England's description does not support (it gives a probable 17th-century origin). Treat the 13th-century date as unproven.[14][6]
- ✓Today. Open, with a small snug, a bar with open fires, beer served through a small hatch, and 10 guest rooms.[14]
Stories
The pub is "purported to have a resident ghost", according to its CAMRA entry. ?[14]
