What the record says

  • ❝Landlords. Records collected by Bernard Porter list Samuel Morrel (1822) and John Morrel (1828) as 19th-century landlords.[2]
  • ✓Rebuilt. The present building dates from c.1930. It was designed by Sydney Blenkhorn of Knaresborough for Hepworth & Co. Ltd, brewers of Ripon, with a rear extension of c.1950.[8]
  • ❝Extension. "The Hotel was extended in 1932 to how it is today."[2]
  • ✓Listed. Grade II, listed 3 July 2001 (list entry 1245941): "an increasingly-rare inter-War public house interior", with oak counters, fire surrounds and stained glass. CAMRA asked for it to be listed in 2000.[8][15]
  • ✓National Inventory. The interior is on CAMRA's National Inventory of Historic Pub Interiors, rated three stars.[15]
  • ≠The family years. Bernard Porter's family held the pub for five generations, from 1902 to 2004. Mrs Lillie Severs held the licence from September 1933 to 1936, and Horace from 1936 to 1956. CAMRA says the long-time family owners sold in 2003, so the two sources give different end years.[2][15]
  • ❝Wartime. "In World War 11 the army took over the back half of the hotel for about four years."[2]
  • ✓Close call. After the 2003 sale it narrowly avoided being turned into a Chinese restaurant.[15]
  • ✓Today. Trading as Tap on the Tutt. CAMRA reports it temporarily closed from 18 October 2026 for refurbishment, expecting to reopen by 24 November 2026.[15]
